Progress Update
Hello all. Myself and Laura have certainly gotten ourselves into gear. We have completed the survey and are now setting up our cloud and blogging and tweeting about it. Wow wee or what. My animation is nearly complete. Its just a demo of what we hope our project will be like. We have a meeting with Peter on Thursday which we are very excited about. Hopefully he can help with this whole programming crisis we are going through. I have emailed Irene but am still waiting on a reply. If not I will email her again soon and then turn into stalker mode and we will try and hunt her down.
Also on Thursday Pat is bringing us into his studio to show us how to use a synthesizer.
Everything seems to be going good. Which scared us slightly but how and ever we wil embrace it.
The Day Of Horror
Well, what to say about today huh? We got a good kick into gear that’s what. Instead of complaining about it we have decided just to take what we got on the chin and keeping buggering on. We have alot to do…research wise. We are going to conduct another survey and maybe even try and record it and make it into a short piece. We met up with Anya today to talk about our work and lets just say it wasnt exactly smiles on round on either parts. I dont know what was worse our script or the fact of realizing that we werent that class A team we thought we were but nevermind thats life as Frank Sinatra would say.
But things turned for the better. Before heading home and listening to MCR in a dark room dwelling in our sadness and depression we got a life line. Anya introduced us to our savior. He told us all about what himself and Irene were planning in the college and we nearly cried at the fact that it was our idea. Irene is planning on nearly doing exactly what we want to do and the best part is she doesnt want to do all the work. So thats where we come in. Metlowbell to the rescue.
Hopefully things will start going alot smoother now. We have ourselves into gear and are starting to get excited again!
what has been goin on,
today has not been the most productive day in the whole world! Yesterday we figured out how to scrape the weather website and have a little icon in the corner that will tell you the weather, its a small breakthrough but the next obstacle is not too far away.
we have contacted the students union but they have not yet gotten back to us about wether we can use their conversation box or not, but i have found some code online that can help me build my own, just have to figure out what to feed it to.
generally i am feeling exhausted but we still have a long way to go yet!!
The (Creative) People Need to Know
This is the DKIT message board. It boasts a wide range of posters, mostly of upcoming music gigs and plays. It’s a great way of letting students know what great creative events are happening around the college and beyond.
The only problem is, its as far away from the Carrols building as it possibly could be without leaving the campus. And there is little to no notice boards in the Carrols building at all. This means that the most creative people in the college are not being made aware of upcoming events, creative or otherwise. I just thought this was worth mentioning because this is a problem we plan to address with our finished project.
Apologies and Results
Sorry for not updating for awhile. Very busy over the christmas period between research, development oh and that little thing called Christmas. =]
Anyway we here at team metlowbell have been busy busy busy all over the christmas period. We met up 7 times over the holidays. We have decided to go with the whole weather element to the project. We are going to try our best to try and scrap met eireanns updates on their weather reports and make animation to show the students what the weather is like. We did alot of research on audio and on design. We want a simple and easy layout that is easy to read and that students can relate to but we also what to incorporate our design talents. We studied alot of our stuff on flash but we it has come to light that we may not be able to use flash so are going to look more into PHP and dreamweaver to see if this applications could be used instead.
Andy has found some software that might help us in scraping content from certain sites. Laura has looked into our audio and has found loads of samples that we are all going to look into. I looked up design and found artists that had very inspiring designs and layouts of online billboards and forums. Hopefully we can all incorporate all our findings to create a great project.
We had a meeting with Anya today and we actually started thinking of the “Suggestion Box” where students can upload videos they have found online that they will think would interest other students. Or maybe their own work films, photos, articles etc it would actually bring us back to our original idea of sharing students work around the college.
We are having a skype meeting tonight so we are going to discuss this!

Idea Storming
We have come up with loads of ideas now. But we have to focus on one, we are thinking of maybe putting in a wecam so it can sense motion or maybe a audio feed so it can detect sound! Dont know which one yet probably the webcam.
One small step for man, one giant leap for our group
Contact has been made. We have been in contact with an interactive artist. We werent expecting anything back but amazingly he replied. He is going to help us with ideas and how to go out making certain aspects of our idea! This is a huge step for us.

Movie Magic
We have decided to go around the college again and to ask people what they want in the college and focus on the garden. What they wanna see in their college. What would brighten up their day. We are gonna make a short video out it and post it up on you tube. Hopefully we can record on Firday. We just need a camera.
Changing of the Roles
This week Andy is our project manager. We think this is a great idea changing around the manager as it gives all of us a chance to be in charge and to see how it feels. We have been looking up art work and generative art work for our project. We havent seen anything that has caught our eye or drag our attention to yet but hopefully that will change when we look more into artwork.
